As a church we support many local charities and support groups, either by fund raising or allowing them to use our church building for their meetings. H.A.N.D.F.U.L is one of these support groups and below is some information about them.
Are you the parent or carer of a child who has a neuro-developmental disorder? Do you feel isolated, confused or frustrated? Do you feel that nobody understands (or cares) about your needs? If so a new support group for people in your situation is being set up in the Bolton area.
Neuro-developmental disorders include: ADHD, ADD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Tourette’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome to name but a few. This list is not exhaustive and I am sure that you will appreciate that we cannot include every single disorder individually, we simply have not got the space available to us, that does not mean to say that the group is exclusively for carers of children with the named disorders, all are welcome that fit into this bracket.
Have you had difficulties accessing information about the child you care for? We aim to support people where we can by pointing them in the direction of service providers you may have had no previous knowledge of who may be able to support your needs.
Are you faced with the possibility of allowing your child being medicated to help to control their symptoms or making a choice as to whether you should choose mainstream school or a special needs school for your child or wondering if you should ask for your child to be statemented? Talking to someone who has been in the situation you now find yourself in could help you to make your choice.
Perhaps you have been having difficulties accessing grant funding or benefits for your child. It helps to share your concerns with someone who understands and leads you to feel less isolated and therefore being stronger in yourself which in turn will help the child you are caring for as you feel better in yourself.
The organizers of the group are all volunteers with first-hand experience of these disorders, they are not professionals but they will do their best to give you the support you need.
If you would like to be included on our database to receive information about meetings and forthcoming events then telephone us or email us your details (See the bottom of this webpage for contact information)
