|At our Church when we give philosophy to the congregation sometimes we use poems/ditties produced from real life experiences. Events that have inspired people to put pen to paper so that one and all can share their experiences and also show you that there are others who have reached certain depths.|
Some of these are quite sad, but because that is real life we have also re-printed them here. Some are from local people, some from further afield, and others are anonymous. Where we can identify the creator we have given credit, and of course we hope that these writers do not mind us adding their verses to this section (and for this we thank you). If you have any work you would like adding to this section please feel free to Contact Us.
We hope that each and everyone of you will read at least one of the list below. And if it gives you just one moment of reflection then it will all be worth while.
I AM NOT THERE - Mary Elizabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die
A LETTER FROM HEAVEN - Ruth Ann Mahaffey
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say,
but first of all to let you know that I arrived OK.
I am writing this from Heaven, where I dwell with God above,
where there's no more tears or sadness, there's just eternal love.
Do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight;
remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on Earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and he said, I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed whilst you were gone,
and as for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here so badly as part of my great plan,
there's much that we just have to do to help our fellow man.
Then God gave me a list of things he wished for me to do,
and foremost on that list of mine; is to watch and care for you.
And I will be beside you every day, week and all the years,
and when you're sad I'm standing there, to wipe away the tears.
When you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closer to you in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those living years,
because you're only human they are bound to bring you tears,
but one thing is for certain though my life on earth's no more,
I am closer to you now than I ever was before.
And to my many friends, trust God, he knows what's best,
I am still not very far from you, I am just beyond the crest.
There are rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb,
but together we can do it, taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy, and I would like it for you too,
that as you give unto this world, it will be given back to you.
If you can help somebody who's in trouble or in pain,
then you can say to God at night my day was not in vain.
Now I am contented that my life was worthwhile,
knowing that as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you ever meet somebody who is down and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick them up as on your way you go.
When you are walking down the street and you have got me in your mind,
I am walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind.
When you feel the gentle breeze or the wind upon your face,
that's me giving you a great big hug, or just a soft embrace.
And when it's time for you to go, from that body to be free,
remember that you're not going; you are coming home, to me.
I will always love you from that land, I'll be in touch again soon.
P.S. God sends you his love
If I had my life to live over - Emma Bombeck
I would have talked less and listened more
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten popcorn in the 'GOOD' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light the fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble on about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car window be rolled up on a summer's day because my hair has just been done and sprayed
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about the grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would have gone to bed often when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show dirt or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment realising that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later, now go and get washed for dinner"
There would have been more "I love you…." And more "I'm sorry…." But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute….look at it….live it…. and never give it back.
I would tell all my friends that I need and love them all that my life would be empty without them!
Wasted Tears - Billy Roberts
God, how many times
Have I shed tears for myself,
Because my aims
I have never reached?
But whilst I bathed in self-pity
And shed tears for myself,
I forgot to practice
All that I preached.
I could never see beyond myself,
And when someone else
Finally needed my tears'
All my tears
On myself I had cried.
The lost Soul - Anon
I am lost; I am lost, a voice twice cried,
Me thinks in truth I must have died.
You must have entered spirit, someone said,
This can't be true, I'm still in bed.
And what's this mist that covers me?
It's so thick, I can hardly see.
I called my wife, but she cannot hear,
I don't know why, she is sitting near.
My health of late was not the best,
I went to bed to take a rest.
How long I slept I do not know,
And I do wish this mist would go.
I never had a lot in life
But God gave me a loving wife.
I tried to reach and touch her hair,
Some tears dripped down upon the chair.
Then its true my thoughts seemed to say,
I have left my body and passed away.
But wait a minute - this cannot be,
The church never spoke of this to me.
My vicar said that when you die,
In your grave there you will lie
When an angel sounds the golden horn,
All souls will rise and be reborn
The mist's got thick I do declare
What would I give to breathe fresh air?
I'll pray to God and hope to find
Someone, somewhere to ease my mind.
Good Lord, my son walked through the door,
It can't be him, he went to war.
'twas over France where he got shot
In his plane, he copped the lot.
With a smiling face he looked so glad,
Through outstretched arms he whispered "Dad",
You have been here too long, his son did say,
Take my hand and come away.
In the mists of time you have been alone,
Through it all, the years have flown.
Is it true, have I died?
There is no death, his son replied.
When the mists of time had blown away,
A spiritual dawn caressed the day.
There is one thing before we go,
Let's tell your mother we love her so.
Have no fear, your time just bide
Her robes of Spirit are placed aside.
Quite soon now she will be free
To live in Spirit with you and me.
And Oh! the peace and joy she will find,
When she leaves that world behind.
Now let me show you the wonders here,
In this world we love so dear.
See the trees, they grow so tall,
And over here is a golden hall.
You will see great joy in every face,
It matters not the name or race.
And here's a place where people rest,
In the spirit world we have the best.
Flowers in grand profusion grow,
Birds they flutter to and fro.
"Hear our song" they seem to say,
"Isn't this a lovely day?"
Come Father dear, I will show you more.
Of a great surprise I have in store.
Over here there is for you,
A little house that is painted blue.
You and Mother built this place
Through good deeds done, and gentle grace.
The old man tried to hide a tear,
As his thoughts went home to his wife so dear.
If she were with me now thought he,
Two happy souls we would be.
But I will wait, and wait I must,
In our great God and place my trust.
Soon we'll be together, this I know,
Oh! My dear wife, I love you so.
Little comfort can I give you now,
I cannot stroke your wrinkled brow.
The church can't help you now, not they,
Dogmas have drove the truth away.
Creeds they chant year after year,
The hells they make to suit their fear.
And heaven's created to suit their flock,
Life after death they often mock.
This I say, for now I know
To the spirit world we all do go.
All that is here is real to me,
The trees, the flowers and all I see.
There's music too, that's all around,
And the bluebells tinkle upon the ground.
Each blossom has a different ring,
While birds soar high and sweetly sing.
I would not change this summer land
For all your earthly things so grand.
So, hark good people living there,
On your earthly plane, that's filled with care
No matter who you are and where you roam,
There's a better life in your spirit home.
Price I paid for it! - Anon
This is the beginning
Of a new day
God has given me to use as I will.
I can waste it or grow in its light
And be of service to others.
But what I do with this day
Is important because I have
Exchanged a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes
Today will be gone forever.
I hope I will not regret
The price I paid for it.
Pain - Anon
Why do I cry so deep inside
When from the world my sadness I hide?
Why do I hurt with sorrow so deep
That if I gave in, forever I'd weep?
I just want to fly, reach up to the sun
To feel that my life has really begun.
To give me a love, a real sense of peace
Instead of pain that never will cease.
I try so hard to love the world
I do my best, my life a whirl
But all of my life just seems to be
Of hurt, and pain, and jealousy.
But why would someone want to be
A sad and lonely person like me?
I wish I felt a life worthwhile,
A special something to make me smile.
But I do not deserve to be
From troubles, hurt and torment free.
This my spirit seems to know,
I only wish this pain would go.
I know I'll be at peace one day
When comes my turn to fly away
Back to a place where I will be
From tortured hate, forever free.
Inspired By Spirit - J.
The wonders of the world are what the world chooses to look at, and not the degradation and humiliation shown to man by man.
What is the purpose of hurting another spirit, what is gained by this?
Is this ever going to change?
YES!! - with the help and understanding of people who walk this earthplane at the moment, but we all have to play a part. Those of you who have a voice must use that voice to proclaim equality to everyone who will listen.
This does not mean walk where you should not walk, but strive always to enter where you are invited and spend time with those whose mind you can change.
It will always be difficult to overcome the attitudes that have prevailed for many, many years but it is possible to plant a seed in a fertile spirit.
Are you willing to be a gardener for your God?
Do not fear that you will be ridiculed and that no-one will listen - those who want to hear will listen. Be an ambassador of the spirit realms, teach that in our Father's eyes we are all equal, all important, we all have something to offer.
God Bless you my children.
If God went on strike - Anon
It is a good thing that God above has never gone on strike
Because he wasn't treated fair on things he didn't like
If he had once sat down and said: "That's it - I'm through
I've had enough of those on earth, so this is what I'll do
So give my orders to the sun, cut off your heat supply
And to the moon give no more light and run those oceans dry
Then just to make things really tough and put the pressure on
Turn off the air and oxygen, till every breath is gone"
Do you know, he'd be justified if fairness was the game
For no one has ever been more abused or treated with disdain
Than God, and yet he carries on supplying you and me
With all the favours of His grace, and everything for free
Men say they want a better deal and so on strike they go
But what a deal we've given God to whom all things we owe
We don't care who we hurt or harm to gain the things we like
But what a mess we'd all be in if God should go on strike
A Wonder Drug You Cannot Buy At Any Chemist - Anon
It is not fattening - has no side effects
and is available without prescription
it's a hug.
You rarely give a hug that is not appreciated
or receive one that does not make your day a bit brighter.
A hug doesn't need special instructions, or a regular service
Its non-taxable - fully returnable, and energy efficient on a cold and rainy day.
It's especially good for stress - worry - anger - frustration
for sadness and sorrow and it's a cure for a nightmare.
The best thing about a hug is that you
don't need any training, or experience,
but a word of caution -
If you are giving a hug for the first time
don't wait until tomorrow to hug someone
who needs it today -
and remember a hug is highly addictive,
once you've tried it you'll want to repeat it again and again and again.
Heaven's very special Child - Edna Massimilla
A meeting was held quite far from earth
"Its time again for another birth"
Said the angels to the Lord above
This special child will need much love.
Her progress may be very slow.
Accomplishments she may not show
And she'll require extra care
From the folks she meets down there.
She may not run, or laugh or play.
Her thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways she won't adapt
And she'll be known as handicapped
So let's be careful where she's sent,
We want her life to be content.
Please Lord find the person who
Will do this special job for you.
They may not realise straight away
The learning role they're asked to play,
But this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer love,
And soon they'll know the privilege given
Their precious child so meek and mild
Is HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD
At the end of Yourself? - Anon
Count your blessings instead of your crosses,
Count your gains instead of your losses,
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your courage instead of your fears;
Count your laughs instead of your tears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.
A moment of your time - Billy Roberts (Dedicated to the lonely)
How many people do you know
Who sit all day without a friend?
They never grumble, and they never seem to moan,
But they're always glad to see the day end.
How many times have you given it some thought,
That it would be nice if you could only
Give a moment of your time
To one who is lonely?
How many times have you wanted so much
To give someone a helping hand?
But with so much to do, and very little time,
You just knew they would understand.
They always appear so happy,
And there's nothing they can't seem to do,
But the smile they wear when you meet them
Is the smile they wear just for you.
Milk still standing on the step,
And callers get no reply;
All because that person,
Would never let you them see them cry.
So, when in doubt, don't just think
And whisper "Oh if only…"
Because, a moment of your time
Is a lifetime to one who is lonely.
A Friend - Anon
A friend is a person who is for you always…..
He wants nothing from you except that you be yourself.
He is the one being with whom you can feel safe.
With him you can utter your heart, its badness and its goodness.
Like the shade of a great tree in the noonday heat is a friend.
Like the homeport with your country's flag flying after a long journey is a friend.
A friend is an impregnable citadel of refuge in the strife of existence.
It is he that keeps alive your faith in human nature,
That makes you believe that it is a good universe.
He is the antidote to despair, the elixir of hope, the tonic for depression….
Give to him without reluctance.
